A business listing is usually a structured profile for a company on a directory, map, marketplace, or local platform. That listing also functions as a citation because it contains identifying business information.
Why both terms exist
“Citation” is commonly used in local SEO to describe the mention itself; “business listing” often describes the profile or record that contains it. In practice, many pages can legitimately be described both ways.
