CITATION BUILDING

How to Analyze Competitor Citations

Use competitor listings to discover relevant directories without blindly copying every citation you find.

Choose real local competitors

Compare businesses competing for the same customers, services, and geography. A national brand or unrelated business can produce misleading directory ideas.

Look for repeated sources

If multiple credible competitors appear on the same industry or local directory, that source may deserve investigation. Repetition is a clue, not automatic proof that the directory is worthwhile.

Filter before submitting

Check whether the source is relevant, active, accessible, and appropriate for your business. Do not create profiles on irrelevant websites simply because a competitor appears there.
